Do my dead parents need to pay taxes?

Answer: yeah, but the IRS is unhelpful about it. (Shocker.)

I’ve added some info about taxes and social security to the site—more to come on those subjects, but it’s a good start. And on the resources page, you’ll find a new crowdsourced recommendation: FreeWill, a website that helps you write important legal documents for free.

How does that work? The site is subsidized by nonprofits, who encourage you to bequeath money to charity in your will. Not a bad deal, imo—though I haven’t used it myself.

I spent last weekend visiting friends in Colorado—my first vacation since my dad died. A much needed break. Fun fact about Colorado: it has fewer state regulations when it comes to burial and cremation, so you can find lots of interesting death-related projects there, like the Colorado Burial Preserve, among others.
