Amsterdam

I recently returned from a much-needed vacation to The Netherlands to visit my cousins. When I wasn’t watching Matthijs’ soccer match or helping Henry create the world’s largest tinfoil ball, I was seeking out memento mori, as is my wont these days.

Here’s my favorite, from the Stedelijk Museum: Özgür Kar’s “The Undead.”

[Description: An art installation featuring three vertical screens, each displaying a cartoon skeleton. The skeleton on the left hushes, the skeleton in the center scolds, and the skeleton on the right plays a stringed instrument.]

Only after I returned from my trip did I learn that there’s a whole museum dedicated to death and dying in Amsterdam! Museum Tot Zover features death positive artwork, exhibits, and more.

I guess I’ll have to fly back?
