Checklists are fun

As I mentioned in my previous post, I spent last Saturday speaking at the Louisville Free Public Library’s How-To Festival. Given my presentation’s somewhat deranged title—”How to Prepare for Death and Have Fun Doing It!”—I wasn’t sure how many people would show up.

As it turns out, lots of people showed up. A full house, in fact! Might have had something to do with the amazing presentations before and after mine: “How to Interpret Cemetery Iconography” and “How to Hunt Ghosts.” Way to work that lineup, LFPL.

The experience was both exhilarating and exhausting—I slept for ten hours that night. But it was a pleasure speaking with so many attentive people and answering their questions. I’d love to do it again sometime.

If you weren’t able to make it, I’ve included the handout below—a checklist for how to prepare for death and have fun doing it. Checklists are fun in and of themselves. So satisfying to cross off completed items! Many of the resources on the side of the page are more specific to Louisville, but the checklist applies to everyone. Hope you find it helpful.

I made this handout on Canva by adapting a wedding prep checklist template, which reinforces my belief that weddings and funerals are very similar and should be embraced by society with equal verve.
