Happy (?) Anniversary!

Somehow this website is one year old. (Technically it was one year old on Monday, but who wants to spend a national holiday blogging?)

I built it in a flurry of frustration and grief and a desire to make meaning out of a miserable situation, and now it has a life of its own. It even spawned a forthcoming book! And all that is due to you, dear readers. A site like this can’t make a difference if no one is looking at it.

Thank you for reading and supporting my work, and sharing it with your family and friends who need it. I hope it has been, and will continue to be, helpful.

I had planned to announce something exciting today to celebrate, but given that I have a full time job and I’m still working with an estate attorney in Florida to finalize some things (stocks are the worst??) and I’m writing the book and I’m volunteering and I’m trying to exercise and have a life, it’s taking me longer than expected. You’ll just have to trust me that something very exciting is coming soon!

In lieu of that exciting thing, I’ll share something else. When I launched the site, several people asked me if they could support me financially. I felt a bit sheepish about this, given that I’m fortunate enough to have full time work, but I also understood and appreciated the impulse.

I set up a Ko-Fi where people could donate if they wanted, and throughout the year, y’all sent $466! Thank you, thank you, thank you—you are way too kind.

I promised that I’d use the money to cover the website subscription fee, and that I’d donate any leftovers to The Order of the Good Death. The Squarespace subscription fee this year was $203.52. Here’s a copy of that receipt:

That means $262.48 goes to The Order of the Good Death—processing fees are on me. 😉

A receipt for good measure:

Thank you again for all the kindness you’ve shown me over the last year. It means a lot.

On to the next year of death positive goodness!
