My dead parents are going to a nunnery

I was going to try to make some Hamlet pun, but I couldn’t figure out how to incorporate the archaic pronoun “thee.”

Shakespeare is not the point. The point is: I’ve been awarded an artist’s residency from the Kentucky Foundation for Women! On Saturday I’m heading to Nerinx, Kentucky to work exclusively on my dead parents book for one whole week.

What’s in Nerinx, you ask? The Loretto Community, home to a congregation of holy sisters who, according to their website, fight for “education, healthcare, spiritual accompaniment, the empowerment of women, environmental stewardship, anti-discrimination, land acknowledgement and advocacy.”

Rad as all get-out. I was raised Catholic, and let me tell you, that was not the message I received at Carmel Catholic High School.

The sisters are graciously putting me up for the week. I am looking forward to the peace and quiet, potentially appearing on the nuns’ closed access television show to discuss my work, and, more pertinently, researching their natural burial cemetery!!

I can’t wait, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.
