Generosity

Hey. You are amazing. (Yes, you.)

I launched this site yesterday. There have already been more than 6,000 unique visitors, and lots of you have sent me (and self-care skeleton) kind words. I appreciate you, and I’m glad you find this information so useful.

Some of you have also been supporting the site via Ko-fi! Didn’t know how that was going to go—well, apparently. I’ve already raised enough to reimburse myself for the annual Squarespace subscription—this site is sticking around for a while. But since you’re actually giving me your hard-earned money, I want to be as transparent as possible about where it’s going.

Here’s the receipt for my initial Squarespace subscription. It’s $192/year plus taxes; the domain name also costs $20/year, but it’s free for the first year. The subscription renews on May 26, 2024.

I’ll be saving your donations to cover the cost of the subscription renewal next year. If I receive more money than I need to cover the subscription, I will donate it to The Order of the Good Death—a nonprofit whose mission is aligned to that of this site. The Order helps educate people about death positivity and death planning, advocates for legislation that allows people to have a good death, and provides fellowships and endowments for death workers.

That payment and donation will occur on May 26, 2024, when the website renews. I will post receipts at that time so you can be sure I’m following through. Don’t worry—I already have an alarm set in my phone called DEATH MONEY, which sounds more ominous than it is.

Thank you again for your generosity and your support. You rule, as the kids probably no longer say.
